Bottom Trawl

Bottom trawl is a fishing method that involves dragging a cone-shaped net along the seafloor to catch fish and other marine organisms that live near the bottom. The net is attached to a large metal frame, called a trawl door, which helps to keep the net open as it is towed behind a fishing vessel. Bottom trawling can be destructive to seafloor habitats, as it can damage or destroy coral reefs, sponge beds, and other important ecosystems. However, it is also an important method for commercial fishing, particularly for species that live near the seafloor such as cod, haddock, and flounder.
