Centre Of Buoyancy (CB)

The Centre of Buoyancy (CB) is the geometric centre of the underwater volume of a floating object. It is the point where the buoyant force, or the force due to the displaced water, acts upon the object. The CB is an important concept in naval architecture as it determines the stability of a vessel. If the CB is located below the Centre of Gravity (CG), the vessel will be stable and tend to return to its upright position when tilted. However, if the CB is above the CG, the vessel will be unstable and tend to capsize. Therefore, naval architects must carefully consider the location of the CB when designing a vessel to ensure its stability and safety.
