Coastal Ecosystem

Coastal Ecosystem refers to the complex of living organisms, their physical environment, and the natural processes that interact to create and maintain the unique ecological conditions of the coastal zone. This includes the intertidal zone, beaches, dunes, estuaries, salt marshes, mangroves, and coral reefs. Coastal ecosystems are highly productive and provide a wide range of ecosystem services, including nutrient cycling, carbon sequestration, erosion control, and habitat for a diverse array of marine and terrestrial species. However, coastal ecosystems are also highly vulnerable to human activities such as pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction, as well as natural disturbances such as storms and sea level rise.
