Hawse-pipes

Hawse-pipes are the openings in the bow of a ship through which the anchor chains pass. They are usually made of cast iron or steel and are designed to protect the chains from damage as they enter and exit the ship. Hawse-pipes are an important part of a ship's equipment as they ensure that the anchor chains are properly secured and do not cause any damage to the ship's hull. They also help to prevent water from entering the ship through the anchor chain openings. Hawse-pipes are typically located on either side of the ship's stem and are angled downward to allow the anchor chains to drop into the water.
