HCFC

HCFC stands for Hydrochlorofluorocarbon, which is a type of refrigerant commonly used in maritime air conditioning and refrigeration systems. HCFCs are a group of chemicals that contain hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, and carbon atoms. They are used as a substitute for CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons) which are known to be harmful to the ozone layer. HCFCs are less damaging to the ozone layer than CFCs, but they still have a negative impact on the environment. Therefore, the use of HCFCs is being phased out under the Montreal Protocol, an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer. Ship owners and operators are encouraged to switch to alternative refrigerants that are more environmentally friendly.
