Madeye
A madeye is a navigational instrument used to determine the altitude of celestial bodies, such as the sun or stars, above the horizon. It consists of a small telescope mounted on a swiveling base that can be adjusted to measure the angle between the horizon and the observed celestial body. This angle, along with the time of observation, can be used to calculate the observer's position on the Earth's surface. Madeyes were commonly used by sailors for celestial navigation before the advent of electronic navigation systems.
