Margin Plate

A margin plate is a structural plate that is welded to the margin of a ship's deck or shell plating. It is used to provide additional strength and stiffness to the ship's structure, particularly in areas where there is high stress concentration. Margin plates are commonly used in the bow and stern sections of the ship, where the hull is subjected to the most severe wave loads. They are also used in areas where there are openings in the deck or shell plating, such as hatch coamings and machinery casings, to reinforce the surrounding structure. Margin plates are typically made of high-strength steel and are designed to withstand the loads and stresses imposed on them during the ship's service life.
