Marine Iguanas

Marine iguanas are a species of iguana found only on the Galapagos Islands that have adapted to life in the ocean. They are the only sea-going lizard in the world and are able to dive up to 30 feet deep in search of food. Their flattened tails and spiky dorsal scales help them swim, while their sharp claws allow them to cling to rocks and cliffs. Marine iguanas are herbivores, feeding on algae and seaweed that grows on rocks and in tide pools. They are able to expel excess salt from their bodies through specialized glands, allowing them to drink seawater. Marine iguanas are a unique and fascinating example of the adaptability of species to their environment.
