MODU
MODU stands for Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit, which is a self-contained offshore drilling platform that can be moved from one location to another. MODUs are used for drilling and exploration of oil and gas reserves in deep waters. They are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and can operate in water depths ranging from 80 to 12,000 feet. MODUs can be either jack-up rigs, semi-submersibles, or drillships. They are equipped with drilling equipment, living quarters, and other facilities necessary for the crew to work and live on board for extended periods of time.
