Notices To Mariners
Notices to Mariners (NTM) are a traditional method of disseminating important navigational information to mariners. They are issued by competent maritime authorities and contain essential updates and corrections to nautical charts, sailing directions, lists of lights, tide tables, and other navigational publications. The information in NTMs is critical for safe navigation and includes changes in the positions of buoys, the establishment of new navigational aids, changes in channel depths, and warnings about newly discovered hazards such as wrecks or shoals. NTMs are typically issued weekly and are intended to be used in conjunction with the mariner's ongoing chart correction activities. They are available in various formats, including paper, electronic, and online versions. Mariners are legally obligated to keep their navigational charts and publications up to date using the latest NTMs, and failure to do so can result in penalties.
