Shaft Tunnel
A shaft tunnel is a vertical tunnel that connects the upper deck of a ship to the lower deck, allowing access to the propeller shaft for maintenance and repair. It is typically located at the stern of the ship and is designed to be watertight to prevent flooding. The shaft tunnel is an important component of a ship's propulsion system, as it houses the propeller shaft and provides a protected pathway for the transmission of power from the engine to the propeller. The design and construction of a shaft tunnel must take into account factors such as the size and shape of the propeller, the power of the engine, and the overall size and shape of the ship.
