Vessel Traffic Services

Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) is a shore-based system implemented by a competent authority to improve the safety and efficiency of vessel traffic and to protect the environment. VTS is designed to provide active monitoring and navigational advice for vessels in particularly congested and/or hazardous waters. The system is operated by a competent authority and is responsible for monitoring and regulating vessel traffic, providing navigational assistance, and preventing collisions. VTS also provides information on weather conditions, tides, currents, and other navigational hazards. The primary objective of VTS is to ensure the safe and efficient movement of vessels in and out of ports and other waterways.
