Waterplane Area

Waterplane area (WPA) is the total area of the water surface that is enclosed by the perimeter of a ship's hull when it is floating at a particular draft. It is an important parameter in naval architecture as it affects the resistance of the ship to motion through the water. The WPA is used to calculate the displacement of the ship, which is the weight of water displaced by the hull. The displacement is then used to determine the ship's stability and buoyancy characteristics. The WPA is also used to calculate the ship's speed and power requirements, as well as its maneuverability and seakeeping ability in different sea conditions.
