Abaft The Beam

Abaft the beam is a nautical term used to describe the location of an object or vessel in relation to the ship's beam, which is an imaginary line that runs across the widest part of the ship. Abaft the beam refers to any object or vessel located behind this line, towards the stern of the ship. This term is commonly used to give directions or describe the location of other vessels during navigation. It is also used to describe the location of objects on board a ship, such as the location of a particular piece of equipment or the position of a crew member.
