Tectonic Plates

Tectonic plates are large pieces of the Earth's crust that move and interact with each other. These plates are constantly in motion due to the convection currents in the Earth's mantle. The movement of these plates can cause earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and the formation of mountains and oceanic trenches. In the maritime context, the movement of tectonic plates can also affect the shape and depth of the ocean floor, which can impact navigation and the placement of underwater infrastructure such as pipelines and cables.
