Bilge Water

Bilge water is the water that collects in the lowest part or bilge of a ship. It is a combination of seawater, rainwater, and any other liquids that may have entered the ship. Bilge water can contain oil, grease, chemicals, and other pollutants that can harm the marine environment. Therefore, it is important to properly manage and treat bilge water before it is discharged overboard. International regulations require ships to have an oily water separator or other approved treatment system to remove oil and other contaminants from bilge water before it is discharged. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in significant fines and penalties.
