Breast Hook

A breast hook is a triangular piece of timber or metal that is fixed horizontally to the inside of the stem and the keel of a ship. It is used to strengthen the bow and to provide support for the deck beams. The breast hook is an important structural component of a ship's hull, as it helps to distribute the forces of the rigging and the sea evenly throughout the vessel. It also helps to prevent the hull from flexing or twisting in heavy seas, which can cause damage or even lead to the ship capsizing.
