Bulwark

In maritime context, a bulwark is a vertical extension of the ship's side above the level of the weather deck. It is designed to provide additional protection to the crew and the ship's structure from the ingress of water, waves, and other external elements. Bulwarks can be made of various materials such as steel, aluminum, or wood, and can be either solid or perforated. They are an essential part of the ship's structure and are required to meet certain safety standards. Bulwarks can also serve as a mounting point for various equipment such as cranes, davits, and life rafts.
