Captain Of The Port
Captain of the Port (COTP) is a title given to the United States Coast Guard officer who is in charge of a particular port or waterway. The COTP is responsible for enforcing all federal laws and regulations that pertain to vessels, port facilities, and the waterways within their jurisdiction. They work closely with other federal, state, and local agencies to ensure the safety and security of the port and its surrounding areas. The COTP also has the authority to establish safety and security zones, issue permits for marine events, and direct vessel traffic during emergencies or other special circumstances.
