COTP


COTP stands for Captain of the Port. It is a title given to the officer in charge of a U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port Zone. The COTP is responsible for enforcing all federal laws and regulations within their designated area of responsibility, which includes ports, harbors, and waterways. They are also responsible for ensuring the safety and security of vessels, facilities, and personnel within their zone. The COTP has the authority to establish safety and security zones, regulate vessel traffic, and respond to maritime emergencies. They work closely with other federal, state, and local agencies to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the maritime transportation system.
