CBFT (or CFT)
CBFT (or CFT) stands for Constant Bearing, Falling Tide. It is a dangerous situation that occurs when a vessel is in a narrow channel or fairway and is approaching another vessel or an object, such as a buoy or a pier, on a steady bearing. If the bearing of the object does not change, it means that the vessel is on a collision course and the situation is made worse if the tide is falling, which reduces the depth of the water and increases the risk of grounding. In such a situation, the vessel must take immediate action to avoid collision or grounding, such as altering course or speed. Failure to take action can result in a serious accident or even loss of life.
