Charterer

A charterer is a person or company who hires a vessel from its owner for a specific period of time or voyage. The charterer is responsible for the cargo and the crew during the charter period and pays for all expenses related to the operation of the vessel, including fuel, port charges, and crew wages. There are two main types of charter: time charter and voyage charter. In a time charter, the charterer hires the vessel for a specific period of time and has more control over the itinerary and cargo. In a voyage charter, the charterer hires the vessel for a specific voyage and the owner retains more control over the vessel's operations.
