Close Butt

Close Butt is a type of joint used in shipbuilding where two planks or plates are joined together end to end without overlapping. This joint is made by cutting the planks or plates square and butting them tightly together. The joint is then reinforced with fasteners such as nails or bolts. Close Butt joints are commonly used in the construction of wooden boats and ships, as well as in steel and aluminum shipbuilding. This joint is preferred over other types of joints because it provides a smooth surface and reduces drag, which is important for the performance of the vessel.
