Counter

Counter is a term used in maritime navigation to refer to the opposite direction of the set or drift of a current. It is the direction towards which the current is flowing. The counter current is usually found close to the shore and is caused by the interaction of the main current with the seabed or coastline. The counter current can have a significant impact on the speed and direction of a vessel, and it is important for navigators to take it into account when planning a route. In some cases, the counter current can be used to a navigator's advantage, such as when it provides a shortcut or a more favorable current for a vessel to follow.
