Cradle

A cradle is a supporting structure used to hold a ship during construction, repair, or transport. It is typically made of wood or steel and consists of two parallel beams that run the length of the ship, connected by transverse members. The ship rests on blocks placed on top of the cradle, which can be adjusted to ensure the ship is level. Cradles are used to provide stability and support to the ship during construction or repair, and to facilitate transport by allowing the ship to be moved on land. They are commonly used in shipyards and dry docks.
