Crossing The Line

Crossing the Line is a maritime tradition that commemorates a sailor's first crossing of the Equator. It is a ceremony that involves the initiation of the 'Pollywogs' (sailors who have never crossed the Equator) into the 'Order of the Shellbacks' (sailors who have crossed the Equator before). The ceremony is usually performed by King Neptune, who is represented by a senior sailor dressed in a costume. The Pollywogs are subjected to a series of tests and rituals, which are designed to be humorous and sometimes embarrassing. The ceremony is meant to boost morale and create a sense of camaraderie among the crew.
