Crutches

Crutches are devices used to assist people with mobility impairments to walk. In the maritime context, crutches may refer to the wooden or metal poles used to support the masts of a sailing vessel. These crutches are placed under the yards to support them when they are lowered for maintenance or repair. They are also used to support the booms when they are not in use. Crutches are an essential tool for sailors to maintain the rigging of their vessel and ensure safe navigation.
