Daggerboard

A daggerboard is a retractable centerboard used on sailboats to resist lateral movement and provide lift. It is typically made of wood or fiberglass and is located in a trunk or slot in the hull. The daggerboard is lowered vertically into the water to provide lateral resistance and prevent the boat from slipping sideways. It can also be angled to provide lift, which helps the boat sail upwind. Daggerboards are commonly used on small sailboats, such as dinghies and catamarans, and are an important component of their sailing performance.
