Dehydration

Dehydration is a condition that occurs when the body loses more fluids than it takes in. In a maritime context, dehydration can be a serious concern for sailors and other individuals who spend extended periods of time at sea. The combination of sun exposure, wind, and saltwater can quickly deplete the body's fluids, leading to symptoms such as thirst, dry mouth, fatigue, and dizziness. Severe dehydration can cause confusion, rapid heartbeat, and even unconsciousness. To prevent dehydration, it is important to drink plenty of water and other fluids, avoid alcohol and caffeine, and wear protective clothing and sunscreen when spending time in the sun. In cases of severe dehydration, medical attention may be necessary.
