Distress Alert
A distress alert is a signal sent by a vessel or person in grave and imminent danger and requiring immediate assistance. It is transmitted via radio or other communication means and contains information about the nature of the distress, the position of the vessel or person in distress, and any other relevant information. The distress alert is recognized as the highest priority communication in the maritime field and all vessels in the vicinity are required to respond and provide assistance if possible. Failure to respond to a distress alert is a serious offense and can result in legal consequences.
