Drop Strake

A drop strake is a longitudinal strip of plating fitted to the hull of a ship, which is dropped below the general line of the bottom of the ship. It is designed to protect the ship's plating from damage caused by floating objects, such as logs or ice, and to reduce the resistance of the ship to the flow of water. Drop strakes are typically found on the lower part of the hull, near the bilge, and are commonly used on vessels that operate in shallow waters or in areas with a high risk of floating debris.
