ELVENT

ELVENT is a term used to describe the phenomenon of a sudden and violent wind that occurs in the vicinity of a thunderstorm. This wind can cause significant damage to ships, especially those with a large surface area exposed to the wind. ELVENTs are often accompanied by heavy rain, lightning, and thunder, and can be difficult to predict. They are most common in tropical regions, where thunderstorms are frequent and intense. Mariners should take precautions to avoid sailing into the path of an ELVENT, as it can cause serious damage to the ship and endanger the crew.
