Fathom
A fathom is a unit of length used in the maritime industry to measure the depth of water. One fathom is equal to six feet or 1.8 meters. It is commonly used to measure the depth of water for navigation purposes, such as determining the depth of a channel or the depth of water under a ship's keel. The term fathom is also used to describe the distance between two outstretched arms, which is approximately six feet. In addition, the fathom is used as a unit of length for measuring the length of ropes and chains used on ships.
