Flag State

Flag State refers to the country under whose laws a ship is registered or licensed. The flag state has the authority and responsibility to enforce regulations over vessels registered under its flag, including safety, security, and environmental standards. The flag state also has the power to investigate and take action against any violations that occur on board its registered vessels, regardless of where they are operating in the world. The flag state is responsible for ensuring that the vessel is seaworthy, properly crewed, and equipped, and that it complies with international conventions and regulations. In addition, the flag state is responsible for issuing the ship's official documents, such as the ship's registration certificate, and for maintaining a public register of all vessels registered under its flag.
