Freeing Port

Freeing port is a small opening located at the lowest point of a ship's deck or bulwark that allows water to drain off the deck. It is used to prevent water from accumulating on the deck and causing instability or damage to the ship. Freeing ports are especially important in rough seas or during heavy rain, when water can quickly accumulate on the deck. The size and number of freeing ports depend on the size and design of the ship, as well as the expected weather conditions. They are typically covered with a grating or mesh to prevent debris from clogging the opening.
