GHG Emissions
GHG Emissions refer to the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, primarily carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, as a result of human activities such as burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes. In the maritime context, GHG emissions are a significant concern due to the large amount of emissions produced by ships. The shipping industry is responsible for approximately 2.5% of global GHG emissions, and this is expected to increase in the coming years. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has implemented regulations to reduce GHG emissions from ships, including the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP).
