Gilguy (or Gadget)

Gilguy (or Gadget) is a device used in naval minesweeping operations. It is a towed body that emits an acoustic signal to detonate acoustic mines. The device is designed to simulate the acoustic signature of a ship's engine and is towed behind the minesweeper at a safe distance. The acoustic signal emitted by the Gilguy (or Gadget) triggers the mines to detonate, allowing the minesweeper to clear a safe path through a minefield. The device is named after its inventor, Commander M. E. Gilguy, who developed it during World War II.
