Heave Around

Heave Around is a nautical term that refers to the process of turning a ship around by using a combination of tugs and the ship's own engines. This maneuver is typically used in narrow waterways or ports where there is limited space to turn the ship around. The process involves using the tugs to pull the ship's bow around while the ship's engines are used to push the stern in the opposite direction. This allows the ship to pivot around its center of gravity and face in the opposite direction. Heave Around requires careful coordination between the ship's crew and the tug operators to ensure that the maneuver is executed safely and efficiently.
