High Seas

High Seas refers to the part of the ocean that is not under the jurisdiction of any particular country. It is also known as international waters. The High Seas begin 12 nautical miles from the shore of any landmass and extend outward. The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea defines the High Seas as an area beyond the exclusive economic zone of any country. The High Seas are open to all countries for navigation, overflight, fishing, laying of submarine cables and pipelines, scientific research, and other lawful uses. However, they are also subject to international laws and regulations, including those related to piracy, drug trafficking, and pollution.
