Hull Down

Hull Down is a naval term used to describe a situation where a ship's hull is not visible to an observer due to the curvature of the earth. This is a strategic position that allows the ship to observe and engage the enemy while minimizing its own exposure. In this position, the ship's superstructure, such as the mast and smokestack, may still be visible, but the hull is hidden from view. Hull Down is often used in naval warfare to gain a tactical advantage and is also used in navigation to avoid hazards. It is important for naval officers to understand the concept of Hull Down and how to use it effectively in combat situations.
