IMO


The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating shipping. Its main purpose is to develop and maintain a comprehensive regulatory framework for shipping and its remit includes safety, environmental concerns, legal matters, technical co-operation, maritime security and the efficiency of shipping. The IMO is also responsible for the facilitation of international maritime traffic and the prevention and control of marine pollution from ships. It is headquartered in London, United Kingdom and has 174 Member States.
