Intertidal Zone

The intertidal zone, also known as the littoral zone, is the area of the shoreline that is exposed to air at low tide and covered with seawater at high tide. This zone is characterized by harsh and dynamic environmental conditions, including exposure to air, sun, wind, and waves, as well as fluctuations in temperature, salinity, and oxygen levels. The intertidal zone is home to a diverse array of marine organisms, including algae, barnacles, crabs, mussels, and snails, that have adapted to these challenging conditions. It is an important ecological and economic resource, providing habitat for wildlife, supporting commercial and recreational fisheries, and serving as a popular destination for tourism and recreation.
