IOPC

The International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds) are two intergovernmental organizations (the 1992 Fund and the Supplementary Fund) which provide compensation for oil pollution damage resulting from spills of persistent oil from tankers. The 1992 Fund provides compensation for pollution damage in States which are Parties to the 1992 Civil Liability Convention, while the Supplementary Fund can provide additional compensation for incidents occurring in States which are Parties to the 2003 Supplementary Fund Protocol. The IOPC Funds are financed by contributions from entities in the oil industry, including oil companies and tanker owners. The Funds are administered by the IOPC Funds Secretariat, which is based in London, UK.
