Lapstrake
Lapstrake is a method of boat building where the edges of hull planks overlap each other. This technique is also known as clinker-built. The planks are fastened to each other with rivets or screws, and the overlapping nature of the planks provides strength and flexibility to the hull. Lapstrake construction is commonly used in small boats, such as dinghies and rowboats, as well as larger vessels, including traditional wooden sailboats. The lapstrake method allows for a lighter and more flexible hull, which can be beneficial in rough seas. However, it requires more skill and time to construct than other methods.
