Locks

Locks are structures used in canals and waterways to raise and lower boats between different water levels. They consist of a chamber with gates at each end, which can be opened or closed to control the flow of water. When a boat enters the chamber, the gates are closed behind it and the water level is either raised or lowered to match the level on the other side of the lock. This allows boats to navigate through waterways with varying water levels, such as rivers with rapids or canals with different elevations. Locks are an important part of maritime infrastructure, enabling safe and efficient transportation of goods and people.
