Longshore Drift

Longshore drift is a geological process that occurs on the coast. It is the movement of sediments (such as sand, gravel, and pebbles) along the beach in a zigzag pattern. This process is caused by waves approaching the shore at an angle, and then receding back into the ocean at a perpendicular angle. As the waves move back and forth, they carry sediments with them, gradually moving them along the coast. Longshore drift can have significant impacts on coastal erosion and deposition, and can also affect the formation of beaches and sand dunes.
