Luciferin
Luciferin is a light-emitting pigment found in many marine organisms, including some species of jellyfish, shrimp, and squid. When luciferin is oxidized by an enzyme called luciferase, it produces light through a chemical reaction known as bioluminescence. This process is used by marine organisms for a variety of purposes, including communication, camouflage, and attracting prey. Luciferin has also been used in scientific research as a tool for studying biological processes, such as gene expression and protein interactions.
