Main Deck

The main deck is the uppermost continuous deck on a ship, usually the deck on which the principal deckhouses are erected. It is the deck that runs the entire length of the ship and is the most important deck in terms of structural strength. The main deck is the deck where most of the cargo is loaded and unloaded, and where most of the ship's equipment and machinery are located. It is also the deck where the crew and passengers spend most of their time. On naval vessels, the main deck is often the location of the ship's primary armament and is heavily reinforced to withstand battle damage.
