Maritime Cyber Security

Maritime Cyber Security refers to the measures, protocols, and technologies employed to protect the information systems, networks, and data of maritime entities from cyber threats. It encompasses the safeguarding of onboard ship systems, port operations, maritime communication systems, and other maritime infrastructure from unauthorized access, damage, or disruption. The maritime industry, with its increasing reliance on digital technologies for navigation, communication, and operations, is becoming a prime target for cyber-attacks. These attacks can lead to severe consequences, including operational disruption, financial loss, damage to reputation, and even threats to human life and the environment in case of an accident. Therefore, maritime cyber security involves not only the implementation of technical measures such as firewalls, encryption, and intrusion detection systems but also the establishment of comprehensive security policies, procedures, and training programs to raise awareness among the crew and other maritime personnel. It is a critical aspect of modern maritime operations, given the growing cyber threats in the digital age.
