Maritime Piracy

Maritime piracy refers to the act of robbery or criminal violence committed by private parties on the high seas against another ship or against persons or property on board such ship. It is a serious threat to the safety and security of seafarers, vessels, and the global economy. Piracy can take many forms, including hijacking, kidnapping, and theft. It is often associated with regions such as the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Ocean, and the South China Sea, where pirates operate with relative impunity. The international community has taken steps to combat piracy, including the deployment of naval forces and the establishment of international legal frameworks.
